Myrtle Beach

After Miami, I drove up to Charleston to pick up some family and the next day we drove up to North Myrtle Beach to stay with more family. They were the best hosts I’ve ever stayed with, and plied us with seafood, cocktails and gorgeous views from their balcony! The took us to a place called the Tailgate Oyster Bar, and we had steamed oysters, grilled oysters, and oysters Rockefeller, which I had never had before, shrimp and the best clam chowder I’d ever had … so far!

We had a day on the beach, soaking up the sun and looking for seashells. There were some ‘gelatinous zooplankton’ washing up on the beach. I’d like to take credit for making up that name, but that’s what they’re really called. Just some benign gelatinous muck. Some kids were collecting them in buckets, some people felt the need to poke them with a stick while other carried out investigative autopsies on them. But THIS guy was too cool to mess with. We did give him some eyes, but other than that, this is what he looked like, clearly from planet Lannic (sorry, wrong universe)! We found a million beautiful shells on the beach, but THIS is what I choose to show you!
The next day I crossed off a bucket list item and went parasailing. I have always wanted to do this, and it just never happened for one reason or another. We had to take a banana boat ride out to the parasail boat and that in itself was life threatening! There were 2 other girls going with us who kept flying off the boat. It was a rough, hold-on-for-dear-life ride. Once we got the real boat, things got much better. It was a gentle lift off from the boat, smooth and easy. It was calm and quiet and so freaking cool up there! We saw a big pod of dolphins and some jelly fish. I was amazed how high we were. On the way back down the captain gently water boarded us through the surf before pulling us back on deck. Thank you Captain! All freaking boat captains are alike! It was so freaking awesome!

Later that evening, after another fabulous seafood dinner and the 2nd best clam chowder I’d ever had, we went to the pier where some fisherman caught a baby shark! Dont worry, they threw him back.

On Easter Sunday, or amazing hosts prepared a ‘Low Country Boil’ for us! Words cannot describe, so I’ll just show you before & after pics! A few shrimp made it out after the initial attack. But we got more during round 2 later that night. Also, I had the BEST clam chowder I’ve ever had in my life. It was buttery and creamy and just freaking yum! To give proper credit, this is from Platte’s seafood in North Myrtle Beach.

We sadly left Myrtle Beach the next day. A fabulous day with amazing hosts! Thank you!
We loved having you all to Buena Vista Plaza in North Myrtle Beach…….and hope ya come back !!
