San Diego, CA

I spent almost a month in San Diego, and there was a lot going on! My sister drove out with me and stayed for a few days in Ocean Beach. She was celebrating a big milestone birthday AND retirement! The weekend started with a pumpkin carving party and some drink IVs. We made two different types of IVs, Sinister Sangria, and a hard cider mix. But the cider didn’t really look like blood, it looked like urine. So we named it Urine Cider. (Hee hee.. go ahead, say it out loud)

We stayed at the Ocean Beach Inn. I’ve been out here a million times and have never stayed there. Its beautiful and it has a big 2 story deck/patio/overlook right out onto the ocean and all of the crazy Obetians, excellent sunset and people watching spot! I have about a million sunset and beach pics.

We did some sightseeing while we were there. Sunny Jim’s cave store in La Jolla has a tunnel that goes down to the caves by the water. I’ve heard rumors that this was used during prohibition as a way to sneak booze in. Pretty sure that’s not actually true, but its a good story.

We visited the World’s smallest Taco Bell, which, by the way, had the world’s worst ice tea. I know, don’t go to Taco Bell for ice tea, but we had to go through the drive thru to get the picture.

We also met a long lost cousin, which was really cool. It was so strange to see him walk in and know instantly he was related. He looks just like all the other good looking handsome men in my family!

Halloween on a Friday night in OB is kinda scary.. there were some weirdos out! (Love that this guys is standing next to the ATM. I have no idea who he is and I didn’t stop to find out.)

My daughter and her boyfriend came out to visit and we had a great time, through the freezing cold, on the Seal Tour, around the USS Midway, and into the ocean.

The place I was sitting at has a great view of a small beach, and it gives endless hours of entertainment to watch the beach happenings. We got back from one of our outings and noticed a beautiful proposal set up near the ocean, and my daughter said: “Huh, that looks really close to the water”. Great idea, bad execution! And clearly unaware of how tides work in the ocean. They were sorta able to recover the wreckage, and she did say yes, so I guess it’s all worked out ok.

Have I mentioned how many ocean pictures I have! There was some crazy weather moving in and out while I was there.

San Diego was beautiful, as always, but the traveling is starting to wear on me. I had about a week in between San Diego and Thanksgiving, so instead of finding a new sit, I just drove out to the desert to hide for a few days.

Good God Jim!
