San Diego, CA

Next stop San Diego. Yes, it is faster to go through Utah, but my mom, and my rum stash are in Albuquerque!

I’ve been housesitting for a friend in San Diego for several years, and it is a pretty amazing spot. I’ve got a great view of the ocean, crazy beach people, and several good friends in the neighborhood. I have about a million sunset pictures in OB, and most of them were taken off this back deck! Meet Rosie, my buddy in OB.

I was in OB for 3 weekends of fun and craziness, as always happens in OB. The first weekend we went to a neighbors wedding and for some strange reason, there are absolutely no pictures of us all dressed up in our finery. We dont dress up often, but trust me, we looked great! Especially after a Mai Tai at Bali Hai.

The next weekend was the OB Chili Cookoff – note that its chili with an “i”, not an “e”, just sayin’. The chili cookoff is a big street fair on the main drag. They shut down the street and have bands and beers and tents, and well, chili. You can taste it and vote on which one you like best. The day ended with our own music festival on the back patio with friends and neighbors. Someone discovered how to use AI to play with the photos, my favorite is of all of us around the fire pit that night.

Karaoke – Every Sunday night is Karaoke, and as you can see, they take it pretty seriously!

I love bougainvillea, and my friend’s backyard is overflowing with it. Her back yard is gorgeous. She also cooks a kickass steak.

For the 4th of July weekend, we stayed downtown to see the big show. We found some great bars down there. Werewolf was awesome, great wings & drinks! Everyone behind the bar was working their ass off, but happy & joking and helping each other out. It was a great spot!

Kirk opted to try the Patriot boat ride. They drive around the bay at top speed with music blasting, and then stop suddenly to soak everyone. Kirk didn’t think he needed no stinkin’ plastic jacket, and neither did I! Ah, gotta love the taste of salt water, and the feel of it soaking down your back!!! Way fun, highly recommend! We stopped in at Kansas City BBQ, which is the filming location of the bar in Top Gun. Great Balls of Fire! There is all kinds of Top Gun memorabilia in there; I especially like the bras around the ceiling fan!

And of course, the fireworks. They were going off at 5 different locations around the bay. Awesome to watch, great day!

I sadly left San Diego, but ready to move on, and in need of some rest. That place is crazy !!!

Good God Jim!
